5 AI Content Writing Tips every Marketer Needs to Know

In order to write AI content that captivates your readers as well as ranks high in search engines, you need to follow certain best practices. In this article,  I will be discussing the most important AI content writing tips for improving AI generation text.

If you’re new to using AI content tools, check out these top AI Writing Tools first, where I discuss how AI-powered tools generate content and list some recommendations of AI writers.

1. Know your Niche

Your AI tool’s output is correlated with its input. Whatever you’ll feed the AI writer tool, will be used to generate output. Having a good understanding of your niche and the audience you’re writing for, will help you feed the AI tool with the best data. Understanding your niche and audience is also important for assessing generated output.

How do you start understanding your niche? Check out this tutorial on how to choose a niche, and these niche research tools.

Takeaway: Generally, the more you know about your niche, such as the language used by the audience, tone of voice, their expectations, the better and faster you’ll be able to work with AI content writing tools. You’ll be able to judge the output and understand what parts of the text needs editing.

2. Produce better content than your competitors

The whole point of creating content is to it ranked in the search engines, so people will consume it.

If you want your AI content to rank in the search engines, you’ll need to compete with the top 10 results. This means the content you create must be better than that of the competition. The better and more valuable your content is, the more chance it has of ranking higher in the SERP (search engine results pages)

To get to that point, it’s important to do some research. This includes understanding the following things about your competitor’s content:

  • What is the structure of their articles?
  • What questions are they answering?
  • What are they doing to optimize their content?
  • What are the headlines they are using as an outline?
  • Do they use video?
  • Do they use social media channels, etc.?

This is called SERP analysis (search engine results page analysis), and it’s a very common type of research done by SEO experts.

You can do this type of research manually (see the link I provided to the tutorial), or you can use an AI tool such as Frase.io to do it or you (see image below)

Takeaway: Make sure your content has a clear structure. Create an outline based on what is already ranking and improve your content accordingly. Put your primary (main) keyword in the title, and highly relevant keywords in the subheadings. Provide the search engine with content that has more words, is more in-depth, and is better written than that of the competition.

3. Edit AI Generated Content

AI generated output is likely to be reasonably unique and relevant, as long as you take care of providing correct input. However, you must always do a thorough manual review. Content that looks good while skimming over it can have spelling mistakes, grammatical errors or be factually incorrect.

Besides the obvious mentioned above, manually editing the output enables you to improve the content even further by:

  • Adding your tone of voice, which increases relevance and uniqueness even more.
  • Enhancing the readability of your content and adapting the language to your audience.

One quick way of correcting spelling and grammar related issues is by using a tool like Grammarly. It’s an established fact that Google doesn’t like content that’s not well written.

Takeaway: Never copy and paste AI content directly into your website. You should always read it thoroughly and manually edit it before publishing. Add your own style (voice and tone), and make sure it’s well written and doesn’t contain any errors. Don’t forget to do some fact-checking too.

4. SEO Optimized Content

Rather than manually analyzing every piece of content that appears on the first page of Google, you can use an AI SEO Software tool to simplify the process and boost your search engine rankings.

An AI SEO tools will scan the top results for your targeted topic and show you the keywords, headlines, and other things you need to focus on in order to rank well. All this, without the need of expert SEO knowledge.

Takeaway:  Content that ranks well in Google is optimized well enough for Google to give it sufficient importance for the reader. To beat the competition you need to optimize your content for the reader and second for the search engines. There’s a fine line between over optimizing and quality deterioration.

5. Enhance Readability, Spelling, and Grammar

Readability is a measure of how easy it is to read a text. Scores are assigned on a scale of 1-100, and the goal is to create a site that is between 80-90. Readability includes many components, including vocabulary, sentence density, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and the use of contractions.

Grammarly allows you to improve readability

Takeaway: A good readability rating is helpful to search engine rankings because it increases user engagement and understanding. Better engagement with your content (such as clicks, time on page, and so on) are signals for Google that your content is valuable to the reader. And valuable content deserves better rankings.

Wrapping up

Using AI content writers to create high-quality content still requires some effort from our side. We can’t just generate content with an AI tool and expect it to be great. If that was the case, everybody would end up with the same results.

To produce great output, that’s pleasant to read, but optimized for the search engines as well, you need to do some manual editing, correcting spelling, grammar and facts. For content optimization, nowadays, you don’t have to be an SEO expert and can use an AI SEO tool.
